Module 2 – The Dashboard and General Settings

This Module is all about helping you to get familiar with your new WordPress Admin Dashboard, and understanding where to go in it, to do the things you need to do to create your website.

In these videos you will learn about the general admin settings that you need to change and set, where and how to upload your images to use on your website,  and what you need to consider about allowing comments on your website and adding users to your admin panel.

The Dashboard

The Admin Dashboard is your home page within your wordpress admin panel, and it has some important and handy information in it.

General Settings

The General Settings in WordPress control much of how your website ‘behaves’ and has some important admin functions that need to be set.

In this video I show you what you need to change, and what you can safely leave as is and don’t need to wory about.

Media Library

The Media Library is where you can find and manage all of the images and other media that you want to display on your website.

In this video you will learn how to upload new images, and how to edit and manage them.  We also talk about the kind of media you can upload, what to do about videos and how to keep it tidy

Comments

It is possible to allow your website visitors to leave comments on your posts, but there are pros and cons to consider before you do.

In this video I talk about the benefits and the downsides, and show you how to change your Discussion settings to make sure there is no ‘nastiness’ appearing on your website

Managing Users

At some point you may need to add people as Users to your Admin Dashboard.

In this video we look at who and why you might want to add as a User, and how to add and edit profiles, and control what they can do
