Module 4 – Plugins

Plugins are nifty little bits of software/code that can be added to your WordPress website to make it do more things.

The standard WordPress software does a lot, but not everything you might want on your website, and plugins fill the gaps.

In this Module, you will learn more about what they do, which plugins you must have on your website, how choose which are OK to use, and how to add and remove them.

Plugins Overview

In this video we explain all about plugins (without going too far into “tech geek” language) and how you can use them on your website.

We will show you how to choose the right ones for you, how to add them and set them up on your website, and how to remove them if they don’t do what you expected

Essential Plugins

There are some functions that every website needs to have, if it is going to be secure and do the job you need it to do.

In this video we share with you our list of the essential plugins you really need to add to your website even before you begin to think about what else you might want.

Really Simple SSL

The first of our Essential Plugins, this nifty, lightweight plugin automatically detects your settings and configures your website to run over https.

In this video we will show you how to connect your SSL Certificate to your website and get your secure status.

Wordfence

As the name suggests this plugin helps to keep your website safe from attack.

It has a firewall that detects and blocks malicious traffic. It also protects your website from fake logins

In this video we show you how to configure the settings after you install it, to make sure your website is kept safe

All in one WP Migration

This is a quick little video showing you how to do a Backup of your website using this plugin, so you know you always have a safe copy of your website

GDPR Cookie Consent

This plugin sets up the required cookie notice and policy for you, and allows you to customise how it all looks so it fits with your branding

In this video we will walk you through the settings to get it just right for your website

Yoast SEO

This plugin is designed to help you to set your website up to get found on Google. It does all of the technical, behind the scenes stuff for you, and it gives you a simple traffic light system to help you to create content for your pages and posts that will give you a better chance of being found

In this video we show you how to use the Configuration Wizard to get started using it

More Plugin Magic

There is (almost) no limit to what you can do with the help of plugins.

In this video we look at some of the other plugins that are available, which you may want to consider, depending on what you want to do with your website
